Penny Hardaway secured his first commitment Tuesday as Memphis' new head basketball coach, but he didn't have to look far when he landed his son, Jayden.
The 6-5 shooting guard spent the past season at IMG Academy in Florida, but he played under his father at East High School in Memphis prior to that.
Jayden announced his commitment to the Tigers on Instagram writing, "It is with great excitement that I am announcing my commitment to both my parents Alma Mater, the University of Memphis!!"
Jayden told the Commercial Appeal he will be on scholarship and expressed excitement in joining his father and the Tigers.
“I wanted to announce it earlier because I had known I was going there for a couple weeks," Hardaway said. "I was just waiting. I was waiting for my dad to get everything straightened out and he gave me permission to commit.
"Everything seems to be improving right now and it will get even better once I go there and start working out with my dad."
