Michael Beasley has a huge fan in Kevin Durant

OAKLAND, Calif — There’s another one to vouch for the Knicks new scoring machine, Michael Beasley. None other than Kevin Durant, who believes his buddy from D.C. never “got a fair chance.’’

Sure, Durant and Beasley are from the same area, but the Warriors superstar said he believes deeply in the often-misunderstood Knicks forward who signed for the veteran’s minimum in the summer on recommendation of associate coach Kurt Rambis.

Beasley, the No. 2 pick in the 2008 draft, stepped in for Kristaps Porzingis as starting power forward in Tuesday’s 123-112 loss to the Warriors, scoring 21 points, four rebounds and four assists and keeping the Knicks close into the third quarter.

Beasley’s scoring average is now at 12.6 in 19 minutes per game and “The Walking Bucket’’ is shooting 52.5 percent. During training camp, the loquacious Beasley received scorn for comparing himself as a scorer to LeBron James and Durant.

Durant said the comparison isn’t crazy.

“I love Beas,’’ Durant said. “I love his family. I love what he’s doing. He never had a fair chance. I said in a comment earlier this year before the season where he said he was just as skilled as LeBron [James] and myself, and I was feeling him on that.”

“I was feeling him, because he is,’’ Durant added. “He can score from anywhere. He can score on anybody. He can use both hands, but there’s something else that separates. You know what I’m saying? I think that’s just the difference, the mental part of it. And he’s got the foundation of his game set, it’s just time to build on top of it.”

After Tim Hardaway Jr.’s injury, Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek started trusting Beasley as a mainstay of the rotation. Whether Beasley, 28, is part of the future is unclear. He will be a free agent again in 2018.

Durant said he thinks Beasley has played himself into a lucrative deal.

“I think he’s found a solid home in New York and hopefully he sticks there, but if not he’s played his way into a nice deal hopefully, and he’s come in handy for this team throughout the whole season so I’m proud of him,” Durant said.
