The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired outfielder Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins, the Brewers announced Thursday.
In return, Miami received outfielders Lewis Brinson and Monte Harrison, infielder Isan Diaz and right-handed pitcher Jordan Yamamoto.
The 26-year-old Yelich, batted .282 with 18 homers, 81 RBI, 16 stolen bases and .807 OPS in 156 games for the Marlins. He moved from left field to center field in 2017.
Last month, sources told ESPN that Yelich was "unhappy" after the team's new ownership group, including Derek Jeter, traded away Giancarlo Stanton, Dee Gordon and Marcell Ozuna in a quest to cut payroll.
Yelich has four years left on a multiyear contract that will pay him a guaranteed $44.5 million through 2021. The contract also includes a $15 million team option for 2022. He'll make $7 million this season.
Yelich's reasonable contract and track record -- he's a .290 career hitter with a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger Award on his resume at age 26 -- made him attractive to numerous suitors.
