Jim Owczarski and Lindsay Patterson were live from US Bank Stadium to talk about Marvin Lewis' surprise decision to not return to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018.
UPDATE: 4:15 p.m. Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis says he has not made a decision on whether to return to coach the team next season.
Multiple previous reports alleged Lewis decided to end his tenure with the Bengals at the end of the season.
Lewis' contract expires at the end of this season.
MINNEAPOLIS - The Enquirer learned multiple members of the Cincinnati Bengals organization, including coaches and key front office personnel learned along with the rest of the nation that head coach Marvin Lewis had decided to not enter contract negotiations to coach the team in 2018.
The Bengals offered no comment on the news.
ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the decision, citing league sources, which broke as the team buses headed to U.S. Bank Stadium for their 1 p.m. ET kick against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Enquirer learned that there had been no recent conversations between Lewis and Bengals ownership about his future, and the feeling among many was Lewis was focused on the Vikings and willing to wait until after the season finale on Dec. 31 in Baltimore to discuss his future with Bengals owner and president Mike Brown.
That has been how Lewis and Brown have always determined his status for the following season.

Lewis and the Bengals did come to terms on a contract extension in the offseason, leaving him without a contract beyond the season for the first time since 2010. After that season in which the Bengals went 4-12 that year, the worst mark in Lewis' 15-year tenure, both parties agreed he would stay on. The franchise changed course offensively, however, moving on from quarterback Carson Palmer, receivers Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens and offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski and drafting Andy Dalton and A.J. Green while hiring Jay Gruden to call plays.
Sources familiar with Lewis' thinking have told The Enquirer he remains interested in coaching in 2018 and does not plan to retire. ESPN reported he would be interested in a front office position if another opportunity to coach did not materialize.
Now, it is possible a head coaching search may progress rapidly for the club.
All of the Bengals' coordinators and position coaches have expiring contracts -- and several have been blocked from interviewing or accepting jobs elsewhere in the past -- which means the team could begin moving forward with head coaching interviews for defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and special teams coordinator Darrin Simmons, or hoping to lock up some up-and-coming position coaches.
When asked on Friday if there was a way he could ease this situation for his assistant coaches, Lewis balked at the idea it was necessary.
"There is no need to ease that way," he said, "they are good coaches they will be fine."

Since Lewis will be looking for work in 2018, it's possible he brings some current assistants with him to a new team.
Heading into Sunday, Lewis is 123-111-3 in the regular season with the Bengals and 0-7 in the postseason.
At 15 seasons, Lewis is the second-longest tenured head coach in the NFL behind New England's Bill Belichick.
The possibility of Lewis walked away was always in play, but when asked on Friday before the national report broke if he had already made a decision he said to a group of three local reporters, "I’m not going to tell you."
He was asked why not?
"Because it’s not about me," Lewis said. "My future is one day."
Lewis said Friday he had not had a conversation with owner Mike Brown about the topic at that point, but they do still talk every day.
One week at a time.
"At some point, we will have a conversation," Lewis said.
Paul Dehner Jr. contributed to this report.
