Scott Frost is expected will be named the next head coach at Nebraska, the Cornhuskers announced Saturday.
Frost will return to his alma mater for a seven-year deal that will pay approximately $35 million. He will be introduced Sunday in Lincoln.
“It is a great honor and privilege to have the opportunity to return to Nebraska and to lead the Husker football program,” Frost said. “I have been fortunate to be at a wonderful school the last two years, but Nebraska is a special place with a storied tradition and a fan base which is second to none. I am truly humbled to be here. The state of Nebraska and the Husker program mean a great deal to me. This is home.
“I am appreciative of the confidence Bill Moos and our University leadership have in me to lead this program. I would not have the opportunity to be in this position without a lot of great people who have helped me throughout my career. Specifically, I would like to thank Coach Osborne who has played such an integral role in my life over the past two decades, both on and off the field. Go Big Red!”
Frost led UCF to an 11-0 regular season and a spot in the American Athletic Conference Championship game, where the Knights defeated Memphis 62-55 in double overtime. He was Nebraska’s No. 1 target from well before the Huskers let Mike Riley go.
UCF athletic director Danny White said Frost and his staff will continue to coach the team through the bowl game.
A former Nebraska quarterback from 1995-97, Frost turned away interest from Florida and deflected questions about his future in the days leading up to the AAC championship game.
Frost’s coaching reputation grew as an Oregon assistant, first under Chip Kelly and then as offensive coordinator after Kelly’s departure. He took over a UCF program that had been winless in 2015 and went 6-7, setting the stage for this year’s success.
