Browns' stunning option for next head coach: Condoleezza Rice

If Donald Trump can be president, why can’t Condoleezza Rice be an NFL coach?

The former secretary of state under George W. Bush is being eyed by Browns brass for an interview to become head coach, according to an eye-popping ESPN report Sunday.

Rice would become the first woman to interview for a head-coaching job; there are three female assistant coaches in the league, but none close to taking the reins of a franchise.

Rice is a lifelong Browns fan and has in the past been rumored as an eventual candidate to become NFL commissioner.

Cleveland GM John Dorsey said last week he was open to hiring a woman for the position vacated by the fired Hue Jackson, as Cleveland has had a merry-go-round of failed coaches this century.

While it still is nearly inconceivable Rice would get the job, the Browns could use the foot in the door to get her involved with the organization. Rice, since being secretary of state from 2005-09, has become increasingly involved in sports, from being a member of the College Football Playoff Committee to chairing the Commission on College Basketball to try to clean up the game.
