ARLINGTON, Texas -- New regime, same old disappointment.
That has been the hallmark of the 2018 Giants with new general manager Dave Gettleman, head coach Pat Shurmur, and a slew of offseason personnel changes whichproduced a team that ranks in the bottom-five of the NFL in scoring, despite an offense that features Odell Beckham Jr., Evan Engram, and electrifying rookie Saquon Barkley and finds itself in an 0-2 hole.
Following Sunday night's 20-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, in which many of the Giants' issues were brought to the forefront, there is plenty of blame to go around for the early-season struggles:
5) Pat Shurmur
Pat Shurmur has had his share of growing pains in his second-go-around as an NFL head coach.
From questionable play-calling, an offense that hasn't found a way to stretch the field with Beckham, to time management issues that have been worrisome since the preseason, Shurmur has struggled to set the kind of tone early in the season -- and his tenure -- that he would like.
4) LT - Nate Solder
The Giants committed $34.8 million guaranteed to left tackle Nate Solder to provide some stability along the offensive line, and the early returns on that investment can't be what the team had in mind.
Solder allowed two sacks, and was called for a holding penalty which the Cowboys declined, on Sunday night.
Through two weeks, Solder has frequently been turned around and hasn't been as significant of an upgrade over Flowers at left tackle as the Giants likely expected.
3) RT - Ereck Flowers
Ereck Flowers' transition to right tackle isn't going as planned.
After allowing a career-worst 6.5 sacks last season, Flowers has already allowed two through the first two games at right tackle and been called for three penalties combined against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys.
The Giants' offensive line doesn't seem to be getting any better, and Flowers is looking to be just as big of a liability on the right side as he ever was at left tackle.
