Tiger Woods has one last chance to notch a win in his most-recent comeback.
Tiger is back on the course this weekend at Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship, the final PGA Tour event of the year and the finale of the FedExCup Playoffs. In Thursday's opening round, Tiger shot a 5-under 65, eagling No. 18 to share the lead with Rickie Fowler.
A two-time FedExCup champion, Tiger is a longshot to win the $10 million prize, but should be one of the favorites to win this weekend's tournament. Two of Tiger's 79 PGA Tour wins have come at the Tour Championship, the last in 2007, when he won by eight strokes.
Tiger teed off at 2:00 p.m. ET alongside Fowler. A look back at his second round.
Hole 18 - Par 5
Tiger crushes his tee shot down the middle of the fairway, looking to close out the day with a share of the lead. His approach lands on the green to set up a long eagle putt, but the 31-foot putt rolls past the hole and he ends up with a birdie -- and a share of the lead. 2-under thru 18 (7-under for the tournament)
Leaderboard update: Justin Rose is in the clubhouse with a 67 and Tiger with a 68 for a share of the lead at 7-under par. Rory McIlroy sits two strokes back at 5-under par.
Hole 17 - Par 4
Looking to rebound from a double bogey, Tiger hits a nice tee shot to set himself up for an easy approach shot. His approach lands on the green to set up a long birdie putt. Tiger's putt misses for a tap in for par. 1-under thru 17 (6-under for the tournament)
Hole 16 - Par 4
Another miss off the tee for Tiger. His approach is short which puts him in a tough position to make par. Tiger punches it out to about 15 feet from the hole. Oops. Double bogey and he’s back in a tie for first with Justin Rose, who bogeyed 16. 1-under thru 16 (6-under for the tournament)
Leaderboard update: Tiger and Justin Rose are tied for the lead at 6-under par, followed by Rory McIlroy at 5-under par.
Hole 15 - Par 3
Tiger hits the green at the daunting par 3 hole. And then he buries a 24-footer for birdie to a roaring crowd. A first pump from the new leader at 8-under par. 3-under thru 15 (8-under for the tournament)
Leaderboard update: Tiger grabs sole possession of the lead at 8-under par, followed by Justin Rose at 7-under par and Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler at 4-under par.
Hole 14 - Par 4
Driver for Tiger goes 313 yards down the left side of the fairway. Follows up with an impressive approach from 220 yards out for another birdie chance. He makes the 17-foot putt for a share of the lead. 2-under thru 14 (7-under for the tournament)
Leaderboard update: Tiger grabs a share of the lead with Justin Rose at 7-under par, followed by Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler at 4-under par.
Hole 13 - Par 4
Tiger back in his groove off the tee with a nice shot down the fairway. Although, his approach finds its way into a bunker. Tiger goes up-and-down to save par. 1-under thru 13 (6-under for the tournament)
Leaderboard update: Back-to-back birdies at No. 13 and 14 gives Justin Rose sole possession of the lead at 7-under par, followed by Tiger at 6-under and Rickie Fowler at 5-under.
Hole 12 - Par 4
Tiger strikes a great ball off the tee that lands in the fairway about 130 yards from the hole. His approach shot gives him a chance for a birdie - his first since hole No. 2. He sinks his birdie but for share of the lead. 1-under thru 12 (6-under for the tournament)
Leaderboard update: A couple of birdies give Tiger and Justin Rose a share of the lead at 6-under par. Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm follow at 5-under par.
Hole 11 - Par 3
Tiger uses a 6 iron but comes up short and misses the green 213 yards away. He follows up with a chip shot to get him within 3 feet above the hole for another par. Even thru 11.
Hole 10 - Par 4
Yet another troubling swing off the tee. The ball misses the fairway to the left. His second shot finds the green but skips past the flag off into the rough. Tiger then comes up with a great chip from a tough lie for par. Even thru 10.
Leaderboard update: Rickie Fowler bogey's No. 10 and is now tied with Jon Rahm at 6-under par, followed by Tiger and Justin Rose at 5-under.
Hole 9 - Par 3
Tiger uses his 5 iron off the tee and falls just short of the green. He sits 77 feet short of the hole. Then came trouble. He misses a 4-footer for par two and dropd two strokes back of Rickie Folwer. It was his first bogey since No. 1 on Thursday. Even thru 9.
Leaderboard update: Fowler sits alone atop the leaderboard at 7-under par. Jon Rahm is second at 6-under par, followed by Tiger, Justin Rose and Rory MciIroy at 5-under.
Hole 8 - Par 4
Tiger misses badly off the tee and sends the ball way right. The ball finally settles after hitting a golf cart. Tiger gets relief due to a TV tower and overcomes trouble by landing in a front bunker. He then gets it to four feet and saves par. 1-under thru 8
Hole 7 - Par 4
Driver here for Tiger goes 325 yards, just off to the right side of the fairway, 154 yards short of the green. His second shot is just shy of the green. He closes out with a par. 1-under thru 7
Leaderboard update: Jon Rahm bogey's the 10th hole to give Rickie Fowler the sole lead at 7-under par. Tiger and Rahm are T2 at 6-under, followed by a pair of Justin's (Thomas and Rose) at 5-under.
Hole 6 - Par 5
Driver here for Tiger and this one is safe in the fairway down the right side. 5-wood here for Tiger as he goes for the green in two but this one is just a little off. He misses left and is in the thick rough surrounding the green. He's got plenty of green to work with and - depending on his lie - should be able to get up-and-down for birdie, and at the worst get out with a par. Tiger got creative with this one, maybe even a little too creative. He flops this one high into the air, and it almost looked like he tried to hole it out. His birdie putt was up-hill from around 13-feet with not much break, but he pulled it a little left or just didn't play enough break. Tough par. 1-under thru 6 (6-under for the tournament).
Leaderboard update: Jon Rahm's 5-under front-nine propelled him into the solo lead at 7-under par. Tiger and Rickie are T2 at 6-under, followed by a pair of Justin's (Thomas and Rose) at 5-under.
Hole 5 - Par 4
Yikes. Driver here on No. 5 and Tiger misses this one left. Way left. The ball flew into the gallery, and judging by the movement of the fans, it kicked and rolled even further left. It turns out he wasn't in that bad of shape. His lie wasn't great but Tiger had an angle at the green and just got his ball to the front. From 20 feet he saved par and avoided a costly bogey. 1-under thru 5 (6-under for the tournament).
Hole 4 - Par 4
Tiger plays this one into the fairway down the left side off the tee. Tiger went pin-seeking with his approach, getting to within 10 feet to set up a birdie putt. That wasn't an easy shot with the pin guarded by a bunker. Not much to see here as the putt misses by a few inches. Another par. 1-under thru 4 (6-under for the tournament).
Hole 3 - Par 4
Tiger went with an iron off the tee here but it leaked out left and found the rough. His approach finds the green, and he went on to two-putt for par. 1-under thru 3 (6-under for the tournament).
Leaderboard update: Tiger sits alone in first at 6-under, followed by Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler at 5-under. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are T4 at 4-under.
Hole 2 - Par 3
Tiger's tee shot on the 197-yard par 3 is just about perfect. With a front-left pin, Tiger played this one a little long, leaving an 18-foot putt for birdie that he buried. No doubt about that one. 1-under thru 2 (6-under for the tournament).
Hole 1 - Par 4
Grip it. Rip it. Twirl it. Tiger's driver on No. 1 is mashed down the left side, but winds up in the first cut rough. He's not in a bad spot, but it's not ideal seeing as he hit 10/14 fairways yesterday. His iron from there safely finds the green, but he's got work to do. The PGA Tour's shot tracker has Tiger at 41-feet away for birdie. Tiger gave this one a ride but it checks up a few inches short. Par. Even thru 1 (5-under for the tournament).
