Any honeymoon period Nebraska football fans had about Scott Frost leaving last year’s undefeated Central Florida team to coach his alma mater is long gone.
The Cornhuskers are off to a 0-3 start for the first time since 1945, according to ESPN Stats & Info, and they’ve been outscored UPDATE 113-57. A lopsided helping of defeat is not what this team signed up for when it hired the man behind 2017’s “other” national champions.
Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez threw an interception Saturday on the first drive against No. 19 Michigan, which should have been indicative of how this game was going to go. The Wolverines devoured Nebraska with a 39-zip lead at halftime before going on to win 56-10.
The Cornhuskers had just 17 total yards at halftime compared with Michigan’s 305, and it didn’t get any better as the game went on. The Wolverines finished with a whopping 491 yards, compared with Nebraska’s 132 — which is impressive because at one point in the fourth quarter, it looked like the team might not break the 100-yard mark.
Their defense looked like it was just standing there for decoration, while Michigan did just about whatever it wanted on all sides of the ball. The Wolverines out-ran the Cornhuskers, 285 yards to 39, and out-passed them, 206 yards to 93.
While this was certainly the worst loss to date, the others haven’t been great either. After Nebraska’s season opener against Akron was canceled, the Cornhuskers went on to lose to Colorado, 33-28, and Troy, 24-19.
After an opening this bad, the internet tore into Frost and Nebraska. Even Wendy’s took a shot.
