Goalkeeper’s arrival paves way for Courtois exit
updatedKepa Arrizabalaga will arrive in London today for a medical before completing a move to Chelsea.
The west London club have paid the £71.6 million release clause to Athletic Bilbao, which makes him the most expensive goalkeeper in history. He is expected to sign a five-year contract.
His arrival would mean that Chelsea can sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid for about £31 million with Mateo Kovacic expected to move to London on loan as part of the deal.
Athletic Bilbao insisted that Kepa’s release clause was met before they would sell the 23-year-old, who is regarded as the most promising goalkeeper in Spanish football. The fee would exceed the deal worth up to £65 million that Liverpool agreed with Roma when they beat Chelsea…
