What are the Devils' odds to win 2019 Stanley Cup?

The Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup and the 2017-18 season is officially in the books.

That means it's time to start thinking about the 2019 Stanley Cup.

Bovada released its odds of all 31 teams winning the trophy in 2018-19, and the Devils start in the middle of the pack.

They are listed at 40/1 to win it all, tied with the Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche. There are 18 teams with better odds and nine teams with worse odds.

By starting at 40/1, the Devils own considerably better odds than they did at the start of the 2017-18 season. When the puck dropped on the regular season last fall, the Devils were tied for the worst odds in the NHL at 150/1. Following their 6-1-0 start, their odds jumped to 40/1 after just two weeks.

How Devils could trade down in Draft

The Tampa Bay Lightning, who finished in first in the Eastern Conference in the regular season before losing to the Capitals in the Conference final, are listed with the best odds in the NHL at 9/1.

The Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, Vegas Golden Knights and Toronto Maple Leafs all came in right behind the Lightning at 10/1.

After winning the Cup, the Capitals opened at 14/1 to defend their title.

The Rangers, looking at another possible rebuilding season, opened at 70/1, ranking ahead of just four teams.

Of the eight Metropolitan Division teams, the Devils rank fifth in terms of best odds, beating out the Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes (60/1) and New York Islanders (60/1).

The Ottawa Senators own the worst odds at 100/1.
