Giants, NFL aware of Odell Beckham video that includes possible drugs

A man who appears to be Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. is seen in a video that went viral on social media Friday night for all the wrong reasons.

He is holding what looks like a brown cigarette in one hand while in bed with a pizza and a woman holding a credit card near an unidentified white substance.

The three-second video is undated, at an unknown location, and was not necessarily filmed Friday.

There is no indication of whether the man alleged in other reports to be Beckham is aware he is being recorded. He can be heard talking to either the woman or others in the room about "trying to get you to sleep with someone."

The Giants and the NFL told NJ Advance Media that they are aware of the video's existence but have no further comment.

Can Giants, Beckham see eye-to-eye on 2 big issues?

Beckham's agent did not respond to inquiries about the unanswered questions raised by the video.

Through the first four seasons of his career, Beckham has been a source of many on-field headaches for the Giants in skirmishes with opposing players and embarrassing touchdown celebrations, but he has avoided legal issues and remained well-liked in the locker room.

The controversial video is here:

The timing of the video is curious and potentially damning given Beckham is looking for long-term contract extension, possibly in the $100 million range. He will play for $8.5 million on the team option year of his rookie contract in 2018.

Tampa Bay's Mike Evans agreed to a five-year, $82.5 million contract earlier Friday, setting the benchmark for Beckham's negotiations. Evans' reported $55 million guaranteed is the highest ever for a wide receiver -- a number that Beckham certainly would want to eclipse.

After suffering a season-ending fractured ankle in Week 5 of the 2017 season, Beckham is training and rehabbing in Los Angeles but returns to the Giants facility for medical checkups, according to Giants general manager Dave Gettleman.

First-year Giants coach Pat Shurmur reached out to Beckham soon after getting the job to begin building a relationship. Shurmur made it clear that the Giants' days of coddling Beckham's on-field antics were over.

In his most recent comments on negotiations with Beckham, Giants co-owner John Mara said, "I've said before many times that we want him to be a Giant. We will get something done at some point. I first want Pat to sit down with him and for them to have a good understanding of how we are going to act going forward. I have a lot of confidence that it will work out well, but we'll see."
