Report: Max Holloway injured, forced out of UFC 222 title fight

In an unfortunate turn of events, it looks like UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will be unable to defend his title opposite Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on Mar. 3 after suffering an injury, per a recent report by ESPN.

UFC has yet to officially announce Holloway’s removal, but the promotion is already looking at other options for UFC 222’s main event.

Per MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, Holloway reportedly suffered a leg injury in training and was unable to continue his camp.

This news comes just months after Edgar pulled out of his original title fight opposite Holloway at UFC 218 due to injury. Edgar was replaced by former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who eventually lost to Holloway via third-round TKO.

UFC 222 takes place live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will feature notable mixed martial arts (MMA) names like Andrei Arlovski, Stefan Struve, Mackenzie Dern, and Cat Zingano.
