Joel Embiid injury update: Sixers C's hand 'sprained so that's good news'

Joel Embiid's right hand, injured Sunday against the Suns, isn't broken, X-rays showed, but it has not been determined if the Sixers big man will play in Philly's next game and the injury will require monitoring, Philly.com reported.

The center sprained the hand with 3:54 to play in Phoenix as he crashed to the floor after colliding with the Suns' Devin Booker.

"It was numb, but I'm a warrior, I want to push this stuff," Embiid told reporters (via ESPN.com). "I wanted to be on the court to win the game."

Embiid stayed in after the injury, finishing with 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks in the Sixers' 123-110 win.

"They said it wasn't broken. They think it was sprained, so I guess that's good news," Embiid said afterward.

Philadelphia is off until Wednesday, when it hosts the Spurs.

Embiid has missed nine games this season with an assortment of injuries. The Sixers are 2-7 in those games and 14-13 when Embiid plays.

"The way he plays, there's always a chance (of an injury), you know," coach Brett Brown said. "It's like with everybody, but him especially. I think the fact that he just hasn't practiced, the awkward moments, unorthodox moments scare you a little bit more."
