Sherra Wright-Robinson, the ex-wife of slain former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, has been arrested in connection of Wright’s death, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal is reporting.
The arrest of Wright-Robinson is the second tied to what’s believed to be Wright’s murder. Earlier this month, Billy R. Turner was indicted on first-degree murder charges. Turner, a former deacon at the church Wright-Robinson used to attend, pled not guilty to those charges.
Lorenzen Wright’s mother, Deborah Marion, told the Commercial-Appeal that she was informed by police that Wright-Robinson would also be charged with first-degree murder.
Wright, who played for the Clippers, Hawks, Grizzlies, Kings and Cavaliers during his 13-year NBA career from 1996-2009, was found dead in Memphis in July 2010, and shell casings from different caliber weapons were found at the scene. An autopsy revealed he had been shot at least five times, and last month, police announced they recovered what is believed to be one of the murder weapons.
Marion said she believes her late son’s $1 million life insurance policy was Wright-Robinson’s motivation for killing him. Per the Commercial-Appeal, Wright-Robinson in 2014 “agreed to a confidential settlement in a dispute in Circuit Court over how she spent $1 million in insurance meant to benefit their six children.”
“Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! They got her! They got her!’’ Marion said Friday night. “They need to bury her.”
