Brandon Peters leaves game on cart after hard hit, being tested for head injury

MADISON, Wis. -- Michigan quarterback Brandon Peters left Saturday's game against No. 5 Wisconsin with a potential head injury.

Peters left in the third quarter after a hard hit from Badger linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said Peters was being tested for head issues at a hospital after the 24-10 loss at Camp Randall Stadium, and that Peters is expected to fly home with the team Saturday evening.

"He's going to meet us at the plane, so we'll have a better idea [of his status] when we see him," Harbaugh said.

Van Ginkel and other Wisconsin defenders began waving for athletic trainers while Peters lay on the ground immediately following the hit. Peters appeared to hit the turf with his shoulder and then his head as Van Ginkel drove him to the ground after Peters released a third-down pass that fell incomplete. He left the field on a cart after taking several minutes to sit up.

Peters was 9-for-18 passing for 157 yards before leaving the game. He narrowly missed throwing a touchdown pass to freshman Donovan Peoples-Jones in the first half; referees reviewed the play and eventually decided the pass was not caught inbounds.

Fifth-year senior John O'Korn, who started several games for the Wolverines last month, took over under center in the fourth quarter. O'Korn completed two of his eight attempts for 19 yards in a failed comeback bid.

It's not yet clear who will play quarterback for Michigan in its regular-season finale against rival Ohio State next Saturday. Redshirt junior Wilton Speight, the season's initial starter, practiced last week but was held out of contact. Speight hasn't played since late September, when he injured his neck while being hit by a blitzing defender against Purdue.

Harbaugh said last week that he didn't know if Speight would be healthy enough to return this season, but he didn't rule out the possibility.
