Redskins quarterback Alex Smith underwent a successful surgery on his broken leg Monday and the team expects him to make a full recovery, coach Jay Gruden announced.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Smith suffered a compound fracture, which left bone protuding through his skin. Gruden said his recovery is expected to take six to eight months.
Smith suffered a broken tibia and fibula Sunday against the Texans while being sacked in the third quarter.

They're bringing out the cart for Alex Smith. If you saw the replay, Smith's ankle is doing a complete 180. Players are coming to the middle of the field with helmets off to see Smith off on the cart. Texans sideline is also coming over to console him
