Harvard loses TD after player flips off Yale defender while running into the end zone

There's no doubt that rivalry games have an extra level of intensity, whether in the SEC or the Ivy League.

And sometimes, that makes players do dumb things, such as what happened during Saturday's Harvard-Yale game.

Facing off at Fenway Park, Harvard running back Devin Darrington ran a clear path to the end zone for what looked like a 27-yard touchdown on first-and-10 to give the Crimson a 34-27 lead early in the fourth quarter.

But when you look at the replay again, Darrington is seen throwing his middle finger at the Yale defender chasing him as he ran into the end zone.

Officials handed Harvard an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and because it was for taunting during a play rather than in a celebration, the Crimson lost the touchdown and were handed a 15-yard penalty.

That's just sloppy and careless, especially in a rivalry matchup. Regardless, at no point is this a good idea in the middle of a game.

While Harvard settled for a field goal on that drive, it eventually beat Yale 45-27 and moved to 6-4 on the season.
