Packers quarterback and Chico native Aaron Rodgers, who wanted to do more than just voice his support for those affected by the deadly Camp Fire, is donating $1 million toward the Northern California relief efforts.
In a video posted to his Twitter account Wednesday, the former Cal star announced that the money will go to the North Valley Community Foundation. Rodgers said he’s also teaming with his corporate partners at State Farm, which will donate $1 up to $1 million for every retweet of his Twitter post that uses the hashtag #retweet4good.
“I personally reached out to my friends and the mayor of Chico to find out how to be of the most help,” Rodgers said in the video. “And raising money for both immediate needs and the long-term recovery is what is needed most right now.”

As of late Tuesday, 81 people were confirmed dead in the most destructive wildfire in California history, one that has burned more than 153,000 acres. Cal Fire said the fire in Butte County was 80 percent contained.
Rodgers, who played for Butte College before transferring to Cal, wore a “Butte Strong” sweatshirt in the video while asking viewers to do their part to assist those in need.
“Let’s help these people begin to heal and rebuild,” Rodgers said.
