The highly anticipated UFC 229 fight week press conference between lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor takes place Thursday.
The UFC, and its biggest star, are back in Las Vegas in preparation of the biggest fight in the history of our young sport; UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defending against former two-division champion Conor McGregor on Saturday night.
After last month’s press conference between the two rivals created headlines, they will meet on the podium once again on Thursday — this time, with the public invited to witness the show in person.
The UFC 229 press conference is scheduled to feature Nurmagomedov, McGregor and UFC president Dana White. As if a fight of this magnitude needs any sort of additional buzz, surely when these combustable elements are all in one room, absolutely anything can, and probably will, happen.
Nurmagomedov has been nearly unstoppable in his UFC and MMA career. “The Eagle” will look to, not only, extend his undefeated streak to 27 fights, but successfully defend his newly-won lightweight championship for the first time. Nurmagomedov captured the title with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Al Iaquinta in the main event of April’s UFC 223 event in Brooklyn. During the fight week build up, Nurmagomedov was captured on video confronting and, eventually, slapping McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov at the fighter hotel.
That was just the beginning of the chaos.
Later on in the week — following the UFC 223 media day at the Barclays Center — McGregor showed up with members of his team and attacked the fighter bus Nurmagomedov happened to be on. “The Notorious” would follow up with the dolly toss heard ’round the world and it has lead us to the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night for the two bitter rivals to write another chapter.
McGregor will make his first Octagon appearance since November 2016 when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to become the first fighter in UFC history to capture two world titles in two weight classes simultaneously at UFC 205. McGregor, who was arrested and sentenced for the incident prior to UFC 223, went on to make his presence felt in the boxing world when he took on Floyd Mayweather in August 2017. McGregor would get finished by “Money” Mayweather in the 10th round and is ready to get back to the world the catapulted him into superstardom.
What moments will stick out at this press conference? Find out by watching the live stream above on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. EST (3:00 p.m. PST).
