Twitter reacts to Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis announcement

Twitter has a meltdown as the rumored fight between light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis is made official.

How quickly a rumor becomes a reality these days.

According to UFC president Dana White, the rumored bout between light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis is “done,” ESPN also reported that it confirmed the fight announcement directly with Cormier himself.

I guess we are all going to pretend that Cormier wasn’t supposed to fight Brock Lesnar? Ok then.

The bout is scheduled just three weeks from now on the UFC’s struggling PPV UFC 230 in New York. The promotion has yet to make the fight official, or say if it will be the main event (remember they already announced that Valentina Shevchenko vs. Sijara Eubanks would headline, much to the dismay of … everyone). Also scheduled to appear on UFC 230 is Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz, which was at one time thought to be the main event. We really can’t keep track these days.

Lewis is coming off a highlight reel, come from behind victory over Alexander Volkov at UFC 229 on Saturday. Cormier is coming off the heels of a stunning victory over reigning champion Stipe Miocic. He defeated the former heavyweight king to become the second UFC fighter to hold a title in two weight classes at the same time. Immediately after the fight, it was announced that he’d face Lesnar, but it seems that the tides have changed.

Some have even speculated that perhaps something has happened to Lesnar (ahem, USADA) to keep him from the bout… of course, that’s all just speculation as USADA no longer announces when fighters have failed drug tests.

Let’s see what the Twitter world has to say about that.

This is like when Tito Ortiz turned back the clock and got a win over Ryan Bader, and then the UFC decided to turn around and book him in the very next PPV vs. Rashad Evans when he was still in his prime. Except Lewis's back is way worse than Tito's neck was.
