Pat Shurmur on Odell Beckham head butting a sideline fan: 'It's important all players keep their composure'

The latest Odell Beckham Jr. meltdown happened in the second half of Thursday night's 34-13 loss to the Eagles, when the Giants wide receiver took to head-butting a cooling fan on the sideline to fire himself up.

The fan is the latest victim of Beckham's frustrations boiling over, joining a wall in the Lambeau Field locker room, and MetLife Stadium kicking net that have felt the brunt of an irate Beckham.

"He said he was trying to fire himself up," Giants head coach Pat Shurmur said Friday. "In my mind, I wouldn't try to give myself a headache to fire myself up."

Jokes aside, Shurmur stressed that it wasn't ideal to see one of his players acting that way.

"It's important that all players in all situations keep their composure," Shurmur said.

Even before his assault on the cooling fan, Beckham went into the locker room early the end of the first half, for what the Giants explain was to get an IV.

"We all know that everybody's always watching," Shurmur said. "So it's very important what we say, what we do, how we carry ourselves, and when something like that happened, everybody asked him what was going on and he said he was trying to fire himself up. That's what it was. Is that what I would have done? Absolutely not. Is that what I want my players doing? No. That's it."
