Khabib's father: We'll demand Ferguson fight as long as he's alive

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father and coach of Khabib Nurmagomedov, insists that a fight between his son and Tony Ferguson will take place in the future, despite just being cancelled for the fourth time.

News broke on Sunday night that Ferguson had suffered an lateral collateral ligament (LCL) injury that would require surgery. Khabib will remain on the UFC 223 card on April 7th, and will face featherweight champion Max Holloway, who has the chance to become a two-weight world champion as the lightweight belt will be on the line.

Even though UFC president Dana White stated that he will “never” book Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov again following the most recent cancellation, Khabib’s father told TASS.ru that he believes the fight will eventually happen.

“As long as Ferguson is able to walk, we’ll demand this fight. We’re ready to fight with him any time and under any circumstances. We’re wishing him to get well, and waiting for him.” (Transcription by RT)

Khabib’s father was also full of praise for Max Holloway. The Hawaiian is on a 12-fight unbeaten streak in the UFC, including consecutive wins over former 145-pound king Jose Aldo.

“He’s a very dangerous opponent, who dropped Jose Aldo in his last bout. He’s very fast and a smart fighter, so this is going to a very interesting fight. I think Holloway is not any less interesting than Ferguson.”
