Here's why I laugh when people talk about how big a series in April is: In 2009, the Yankees lost their first eight games to the Red Sox and trailed by five games in late-June. They won the AL East by eight games.

Let’s take the big-picture look before we get into the nitty gritty. The Yankees (5-6) are still just 11 games into the season. A lot will change between now and October.

Judge is raking
So, about that sophomore slump … Aaron Judge seems like he’s picked up right where he left off following his incredible 2017.
Judge went 3-for-4 with a home run and two singles to improve his batting average to .333. The home run gave Judge 59 for his career in his 193rd game — the fewest games to reach the mark in baseball history, with Rudy York’s 196 games the closest.
Judge also extended his hitting streak to eight games (.400 BA, 12-for-30) and grabbed his second straight multi-hit game and fourth this season.

A glimmer for Stanton
Yeah, Giancarlo Stanton’s overall stats still look terrible (.196 BA, 22 K, 46 AB). And he looked awful in a pair of strikeouts courtesy of Chris Sale on Tuesday. (Aces will do that to you.) But he picked up a pair of hits. Stanton said he was seeing the ball a lot better. Maybe that’s a sign?

Gregorius is still hot
Shortstop Didi Gregorius is hitting .389 after getting his fourth multi-hit game (2-for-4) of the season. He’s also hitting lefties. Against southpaws, the lefty-swinging Gregorius has four hits in 11 at-bats (.364 BA).
