Video could hurt Odell Beckham's megacontract chances: agent

That strange video that went viral featuring Odell Beckham Jr. and a bed, pizza, a woman and possibly – but certainly not definitely — marijuana and cocaine that surfaced as the Giants star receiver is seeking a break-the-bank contract extension?

It might not be anything major, but it cannot be dismissed as nothing.

“This is something,’’ a prominent player agent told The Post on Saturday. “You’re pulling your hair out. If you’re the agent you’re saying ‘What are you doing to yourself, it’s like you’re destroying your reputation.’ ’’

It is up to the Giants – specifically, co-owner John Mara – to decide how much this means. It will be Mara who goes thumbs-up or thumbs-down on a mega-deal for Beckham, who is set to play the 2018 season on the $8.459 million fifth-year option picked up by the team. General manager Dave Gettleman will give any go-ahead for the deal and his assistant, Kevin Abrams, will hammer out the details, but only if ownership green-lights spending what could rise to close to $100 million on Beckham.

A seven-second Snapchat video surfaced Friday showing Beckham lounging in a bed with a woman – both are fully clothed – with a pepperoni pizza and some suspicious-looking substances. Beckham looked to be holding a thick, brown blunt in his left hand. Beckham, who did not appear to know he was being taped, can he heard saying “I’m trying to get you to sleep with someone’’ to the woman. At the end of the video, the woman is holding a credit card close to a white substance spread on a flat surface.

The Giants said they are aware of the video but had no further comment. Beckham on his Twitter account posted “Old news still makes a good story … I guess’’ with the hashtag “#CatchUpWereIn18.’’ That seems to indicate the video was not taken recently.

It remains to be seen if this video has any bearing on the financial investment the Giants will make in the 25-year old Beckham, who is coming off surgery to repair a fractured left ankle and is looking to become the highest-paid receiver in NFL history. Mike Evans signed a five-year extension Friday worth $82.5 million, an average of $16.5 million per year, with the Buccaneers. Antonio Brown of the Steelers last year signed a four-year, $68 million deal, an average of $17 million per year. Figure Beckham wants to exceed those contracts.

Given his eventful, turbulent four years in the NFL, filled with record-breaking production and what at times were bizarre controversies, this video is another reminder of what Beckham brings to the table off the field.

“If you’re someone like Mara, when does it become the final straw?’’ said the agent, who has negotiated several deals over the years with the Giants. “The question is when is enough enough? When does Mara finally say ‘Hey, you want to be the highest paid player in football and this is how you conduct yourself?’ Your past follows you, whether it’s recent or a while ago.

“From an agent’s point of view, if it was my client, he just stepped into a pot of hot water again. This is a guy who doesn’t realize, like the boat before the playoffs, the consequences of his behavior on a day-to-day basis. He may be the best wide receiver in football but there’s a limit to how much you want to take.’’

This video might actually drive the price down for Beckham.

“Mara’s already come out and said it’s his intention to negotiate,’’ the agent said. “What does it mean now that he added this to his resume? Mara may say from an ownership point of view, this guy just created a problem for himself and now I can offer him less money, because why would I reward him with such a significant contract when his behavior is so bad? It may be a favorable situation for the Giants.’’
