NFL Rumors: Seattle Seahawks cutting Richard Sherman? | Should Eagles sign him?

The Seattle Seahawks appear to be on the verge of a stunning move, as cornerback Richard Sherman has reportedly started to say goodbye to his teammates, a strong sign that one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL is about to be on either on the open market or is already on the trade block.

As is the case with every player that hits the market, the Eagles will discuss the idea of adding Sherman. It could be a short conversation or it could result in them placing a call to Sherman (who is his own agent) to see if he would want to come to Philadelphia.

Here are some reasons why it could happen and some reasons why it might not:

WHY IT COULD HAPPEN: It is Richard Sherman and Howie Roseman is still running the show for the Eagles. That is reason enough to not completely shut down the idea, as Roseman has a history of making splashy moves and signing big names. Sherman would have to want to come to Philadelphia, but as Roseman always says, the Eagles are always looking to add quality football players to their team. Sherman would certainly qualify as that, and Roseman is never one to shy away from making a big money.

NFL RUMORS: Latest on Nick Foles

WHY IT WON'T HAPPEN: The Eagles, unlike a year ago, are already loaded at cornerback with young players. Jalen Mills, Ronald Darby, Sidney Jones, Rasul Douglas -- all appear to have bright futures and can be counted on to play at a high level next season. Sherman at his best is better than anyone on the Eagles' roster, but he is 30-years old and coming off of a season-ending Achilles injury. There is a strong argument to be made that the Eagles are better off going with their young players than trying to bring in Sherman.

Financially, adding Sherman will not be easy. The Eagles are currently around $9 million over the salary cap, and likely won't have the money to give Sherman what other teams will be able to offer. It is also unlikely that if a bidding war begins for Sherman in a trade the Eagles will jump in, as they are limited in their draft capital and are looking to collect more draft picks, not ship them away.

Pulling off any player-for-player trade will also be tough, even if it does involve an Eagles' cornerback, because Sherman is set to make $11 million this season.

PREDICTION: Sherman will not be joining the Eagles
