Daryl Worley for Torrey Smith: 5 things to know about Eagles-Panthers trade

The Eagles have traded wide receiver Torrey Smith to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for cornerback Daryl Worley, according to a report from ESPN

The move saves the Eagles $4 million in salary cap space, as Smith was set to count $5 million against the cap, and Worley counts just $650,000.

Here are five thoughts on the trade:

1) The move signals that the Eagles will be giving Mack Hollins a chance to start next season in Smith's spot. Hollins started to take snaps from Smith late in the season, but now it will be up to Hollins to take over on a full-time basis.

NFL Rumors: Would Eagles trade Brandon Graham?

2) Worley is 6-foot-1, 198 pounds and has played on the Panthers for the last two seasons. He has three interceptions in 31 games, 25 of which he started.

3) Worley joins a very crowded cornerback group on the Eagles, as the team already has Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, Rasul Douglas and Sidney Jones on the roster.

4) Whether this is a move made for Worley, or a move made to simply get something in return for Smith, remains to be seen. At the very least, it appears the Eagles want to give Worley a shot to make the roster in training camp.

5) There was already some speculation that the Eagles could be on the verge of trading a cornerback already on the roster. This could be the first step in an eventual trade that sends one of their cornerbacks from last year to a new team.
