Shareef O'Neal, Shaq's son, commits to UCLA

Shareef O’Neal, the highly-touted son of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, has committed to UCLA. Josh Gershon of 247 Sports was the first to report the news.

O’Neal’s commitment comes just three days after he decommitted from one of UCLA’s chief rivals, Arizona. Hours after an ESPN report was released alleging that Arizona head coach Sean Miller had been caught on tape discussing a $100,000 payment to freshman Deandre Ayton, O’Neal expressed concern about the situation on Twitter. Less than 24 hours later, he announced his decommitment.

O’Neal, who stands 6’9, doesn’t have quite as much size as his dad, but he’s still one of the most athletic big men in the 2018 class. He made a name for himself on the Cal Supreme AAU team for being a terrific finisher around the rim and a relentless rebounder.

ESPN currently rates O’Neal as the No. 29 overall prospect in the class of 2018. He joins a loaded UCLA recruiting class that already includes three signees and another two commits, including five-star center Moses Brown.
