NBA free agency rumors: Cavaliers' LeBron James to Sixers? Other players don't want that, apparently

For anyone looking at LeBron James through the Sixers' lense, the wind during All-Star Weekend sure seemed to blow in the direction of Philadelphia being a true candidate as James' next destination.

First, James raved about Sixers' Joel Embiid at Saturday's Media Day in the Los Angeles Convention Center. James' quotes mostly raved about Embiid's skills at a player, but his feelings on Embiid's off-court persona were particularly interesting.

"Off the court he's just being himself," James said. "He is who he is. That's special. When you're authentic, I think people gravitate toward that."

That night, Sixers rookie Ben Simmons posted a picture on Instagram with James -- as well as Wizards' John Wall and Cavaliers' Tristan Thompson -- from one of the many All-Star Weekend nighttime parties. All four are clients of Klutch Sports, which is owned by James' childhood friend Rich Paul.

What Embiid can learn from All-Star Game

Note Simmons' caption: "June 30th midnight."

That is the first day teams can come to verbal agreements with free agents.

The idea of James becoming a part of the Sixers was a topic loosely broached in an ESPN poll of 48 NBA players. The Sixers, Embiid and coach Brett Brown each received votes in the categories of "Where will LeBron sign this offseason?", "Where should LeBron sign this offseason?", "What coach should LeBron pair up with?" and "What player do you think LeBron should pair up with?"

The most notable Sixers-related outcome on ESPN's poll, though, came in response to the question "What rumored team should LeBron NOT sign with?"

In that poll, the Sixers came in first place with 31 percent of the vote, ahead of the Warriors (28 percent), Lakers (16), Rockets (16) and others (9 percent).

Of course, this poll won't have any actual bearing on James' decision, though the league-wide (or 48-player wide) perception of his free agency decision-making is certainly interesting.
