UFC St. Louis video recap: Jeremy Stephens stops Doo Ho Choi

UFC kicked off their 2018 with an FS1 show headlined by Jeremy Stephens vs. Doo Ho Choi. Both are incredibly tough fighters, but in the end, it was the Lil Heathen who took the victory, stopping Choi with strikes on the mat midway through the 2nd round. Great win for Jeremy Stephens, who advances his record to 27-14 and is on a 2 fight win streak now. Choi drops to 14-3 and has now lost back to back.

What was the high point of the fight?

The entire 2nd round was pretty great, as both started throwing down. Choi landed a great Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort style front kick to the chin plus a step-in elbow that was beautiful, but Stephens then closed things out with his own striking game. Great exchanges all round.

Where do these two go from here?

A little over a year ago, Stephens was on a 2-5 slide. Now, he’s 2-0, both over highly regarded opponents. He’s in his 11th (!) year in the Octagon, and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The #9 ranked Stephens called out Brian Ortega post-fight - that’s possible, but personally I would rather see him test out Josh Emmett.

The Korean Superboy is a fan favorite, so the 2nd loss isn’t a terrible thing for him, but he will need to get back in the W column next time out. I expect to see him get something of a softball next time, as the UFC has no desire to see him wash out.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Now. Round 1 has some feeling out, but round 2 heats up fast and it’s got an exciting finish. Good stuff!
