The Chicago Bears have named former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy their new head coach, the team announced Monday.
Nagy, 39, replaces John Fox, who was fired after going 14-34 in three seasons.
Nagy was interviewed Sunday by Bears general manager Ryan Pace, a day after the Chiefs lost to the Titans in the AFC wild card game. Nagy was criticized, along with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, for abandoning the run game during the second half of the Chiefs' loss.
Nagy will also be the play-caller for quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The Bears would like to keep defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, but know Fangio has other options.
Nagy has spent his NFL coaching career under Reid, starting as an intern in 2008 for the Eagles. With the Chiefs, Nagy started as the quarterbacks coach in 2013, and became offensive coordinator last season.
Nagy also played six seasons in the Arena Football League, where he threw 374 touchdowns and 18,866 yards.
