Week 14 NFL playoff and elimination scenarios: Time to start filling out the field

We’re through Week 13 of the NFL regular season and we’ve yet to see a team clinch a playoff spot. That seems likely to change after Week 14. Here’s where everyone stands.

Current AFC playoff field

1. Steelers 10-2

2. Patriots 10-2

3. Titans 8-4

4. Chiefs 6-6

5. Jaguars 8-4

6. Ravens 7-5

Still alive: Every other AFC team except the eliminated Browns.

AFC CLINCHING SCENARIOS FOR WEEK 14

Patriots: Will clinch the AFC East with a win/tie against the Dolphins or a Bills loss/tie to the Colts.

Steelers: Will clinch the AFC North with a win/tie against the Ravens. Will clinch a playoff berth with a Bills loss/tie to the Colts.

Jaguars: Will clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Seahawks combined with losses/ties by the Bills, Dolphins, Jets and Chargers, plus the Chiefs-Raiders game not ending in a tie.

AFC PLAYOFF ELIMINATION SCENARIOS

Bengals: There are three somewhat-complicated ways in which Cincinnati can be eliminated, and all three begin with the Bengals losing to the Bears and the Ravens beating the Steelers. Click here for further details.

Texans: There are nine combinations that will result in Houston being eliminated from the playoffs. Seven of them begin with the Texans losing to the 49ers and the other two involve a tie. NFL Playoff Scenarios breaks down what else needs to happen here.

Colts: Indianapolis will be eliminated with a loss/tie against the Bills, or a Ravens win/tie, or a Dolphins win, or a Bengals win, or a Dolphins tie/Chargers win/Raiders-Chiefs tie.

Broncos: First things first, the Broncos will be eliminated with a loss/tie against the Jets. Denver also is out if any number of other teams win or tie. Full details here.

Still alive: Every other NFC team except the eliminated Giants, 49ers and Bears.

NFC CLINCHING SCENARIOS FOR WEEK 14

Eagles: Will clinch the NFC East with a win/tie against the Rams or a Cowboys loss/tie against the Giants.

Vikings: Will clinch the NFC North with a win/tie against the Panthers or losses/ties by both the Lions and Packers.

Rams: Will clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Eagles combined with losses by the Panthers and Falcons, plus losses/ties by the Packers, Lions and Cowboys.

Saints: Will clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Falcons combined with several other results, most of them involving a Vikings win/tie. Click here to see all of them.

NFC PLAYOFF ELIMINATION SCENARIOS FOR WEEK 14

Buccaneers: Will be eliminated with a loss/tie against the Lions, or after four other combinations of results. Click here to see all of them.

Redskins: Will be eliminated with a loss to the Chargers plus one of a sizable number of other combinations. Click here to see all of them. In essence, Washington cannot afford another loss.
