The Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran linebacker James Harrison, the franchise's all-time sack leader, on Saturday.
Harrison, who has 80.5 sacks with the Steelers, played in just three games this season. He signed with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie in 2002 and started 107 games of the 177 games in which he saw action with the team.
In a related roster move, the Steelers activated offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert from the reserve/suspended by commissioner list Saturday.
"There was no animosity or bad feelings. It's just the business of the NFL," Bill Parise, Harrison's agent, told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "I believe he still wants to play. We'll have to wait and see what happens with waivers."
