Lakers guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is currently serving a 25-day jail sentence that allows him to leave on a work-release for games and practices, according to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to a parole violation on Dec. 13 stemming from a driving under the influence charge last March.
As Bill Oram of the SoCal News Group previously reported, Caldwell-Pope is unable to leave the state of California during this time period.
He has already missed recent road games against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets. The team has one more game in Houston and one in Minnesota before his sentence concludes.
The original infraction came while Caldwell-Pope was a member of the Detroit Pistons shortly after a game against the Miami Heat. He then failed to comply with a Michigan court's drug and alcohol screening order, which required him to undergo random tests.
According to Ganguli, he now must wear a GPS monitor and complete a breathalyzer test whenever he is away from the detention facility. If he fails to comply, he will be sentenced to 93 days in Oakland County Jail in Michigan.
Caldwell-Pope signed a one-year deal with the Lakers in the offseason after four years in Detroit. He has lived up to expectations on the court, ranking third on the team with 14.2 points per game while matching Brandon Ingram for the most minutes per game.
However, he was suspended the first two games of the year due to the DUI and will now miss additional games in the aftermath while spending his nights in jail. With the young player set to hit free agency again next summer, he may have serious questions to answer about his off-court life.
