Tennessee WR Jauan Jennings dismissed from team after explicit Instagram rant

Tennessee wide receiver Jauan Jennings went on an expletive rant about the Vols coaching staff on social media Wednesday, and as a result has been dismissed from the team.

Vols interim coach Brady Hoke said in a statement, according to The Tennessean, that the decision to dismiss Jennings from the football program was made with athletic director John Currie, adding that "representing the University of Tennessee football program is a privilege."

Jennings, who has not played since dislocating his wrist in the season opener against Georgia Tech, posted a video on Instagram criticizing Tennessee coaches while using derogatory language and name-calling throughout.

In the video, Jennings said he went to practice on Wednesday hoping to play against Vanderbilt on Saturday, but then ranted about how much he hates the Commodores before shifting his focus back to the coaches.

He used the words "lying," "fake" and "snake" to describe the coaches while asking Tennessee officials to "bring us a coaching staff that's honest."

"It ain't nothing to do with no players," Jennings said. "It ain't nothing to do with no (expletive) injuries (expletive). It's straight (expletive) coaching."

Hoke, who took over the program after Butch Jones was fired Nov. 12, said he was surprised by the rant, but felt that he and Currie made the right decision for the team.

“It was a little bit of a surprise, I think, to everybody, and me included," Hoke said. "But after talking to John Currie and consulting with him, I know what the right thing to do is for our football team. That’s why we made that decision.”
