The Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford set two NFL records with his performance Thursday but limped off with what appeared to be a right ankle injury early in the fourth quarter.
Stafford was hurt after releasing a 43-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones Jr. that brought the Lions within four points of the Vikings. However, he was taped up and returned to the game.
Earlier, he distinguished himself from the rest of the NFL players who have toiled on Thanksgiving, setting an NFL record for the most passing yards on Thanksgiving Day. The record-setting pass was a 6-yard touchdown to Jones and moved Stafford past former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who passed for 2,338 yards in 10 Thanksgiving games. Stafford was only 120 yards shy of Romo’s mark coming into the game.
The TD pass came just before halftime in a game in which the Lions had been playing behind the Vikings, who led 20-10 at the half. Stafford completed 9 of 17 for 124 yards and the touchdown in the first half.
A little later, he broke the record for passing yardage by a player under the age of 30, passing Peyton Manning’s 33,189 yards.
Matthew Stafford has now thrown for more yards than any quarterback in NFL history under the age of 30. He has 33,228 yards — breaking the old record set by Peyton Manning with 33,189 yards.

The Vikings scored twice in 94 seconds for a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. The Vikings’ Thanksgiving dinner TD celebration and the Lions’ performance brought the boos.

The 8-2 Vikings lead Lions by two games in the NFC North, although the Lions hold the tiebreaker.
In other games…
The Philadelphia Eagles are running away with the NFC East, which means the stumbling Dallas Cowboys and injury-struck Washington Redskins have a lot on the line in the day’s final two games.
In the middle game, the 5-5 Cowboys will be without Ezekiel Elliott when they face the 4-6 Los Angeles Chargers.
The 4-6 Redskins wrap up the day with a game against the 2-8 New York Giants and they’re hurting. They’ve also been hapless on Thanksgiving, going winless on the holiday since 2012 and 2-7 all time on Turkey Day. To boot, they play next Thursday night, too, against the Cowboys in Dallas.
