LeBron James and Kevin Love lit up the Heat for 48 1st half points

One thing that makes the NBA different from all other levels of basketball is that you can simply give your best players the basketball and let them go to work. The Cavaliers took that to another level on Tuesday night against the Miami Heat.

Not only did Love and James combine for 48 points in the half, but they took 25 of the team’s 47 shots to get there. For you plus-minus fiends, behold!

That’s not even counting the 10 free throw attempts between the two. They went crazy against the Heat in the first half. Love, specifically, finished with 32 points in the half.

People will try to tell you that dominance is not the answer or that one or two players shouldn’t be able to decide the outcome of a game simply by dominating the ball and being better than their opponents. But right now those people can take a hike.

There’s nothing wrong with having two players work a majority of your offense in a single game — especially when they’re doing it well. I mean, are you going to stop James from slithering through your defense like a snake at 250-plus pounds?

And let me know how you’re going to stop this 6’10 sharpshooter from torching your big man while he’s running through screens. Oh, that same big man flinging fireballs from deep? He’ll kill you on the glass, too.

James and Love work well together, too. You can literally see the chemistry oozing out of the basketball on this backdoor cut.

WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SUPPOSED TO DO?

Erik Spoelstra doesn’t know. He called four timeouts in the first half just searching for an answer. That’s the same conundrum most coaches go through every night with the Cavaliers’ All-Stars.

This might be breaking news to some of you, but James and Love are excellent at basketball. And there’s nothing wrong with appreciating that excellence. For you basketball snobs obsessed with ball movement and all that, you’re going to have to get over this one.

Both styles have their flaws and their benefits. But as long as you have super players like these two, this strategy is probably going to work on most nights. Let’s appreciate it.
