John Wall is out for at least two weeks after receiving knee treatment

John Wall is out for at least two weeks as he recovers from a sore knee. Wall will receive platelet-rich plasma treatment and viscosupplementation injections in his left knee, according to a statement from the Wizards. The star point guard was experiencing soreness in his left knee over the last few weeks and even had it drained at one point by the Wizards’ training staff.

Wall’s knee flared up after a Nov. 7 game with the Dallas Mavericks where he experienced knee-to-knee contact, according to a statement from the Wizards. He had already missed two games this season due to a sprained shoulder and a sprained right ankle. He’ll miss games consecutively for the first time in two seasons. He hasn’t missed more than five games in a season since 2012-13 when he had knee surgery.

The Wizards will turn to backup point guard Tim Frazier in his absence. Bradley Beal will likely assume some of the ball handling duties in his absence as well. The Wizards are 1-1 without Wall so far this season with both games coming against the Raptors. Wall was averaging 20.3 points and 9.2 assists per game.

What does this mean for the Wizards?

The Wizards sit at 10-8 and are currently placed at 7th in the Eastern Conference. A prolonged absence from Wall could be trouble for Washington, but it’s best to keep your best players healthy.

Wall could probably continue to play through the soreness he was experiencing. He played on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Hornets and put up 31 points and 11 assists. He’d also been playing on the knee for three weeks already. But the Wizards needed to take care of the injury before it got any worse. It’s better to prioritize the long-term over the short-term with your best players, and that’s what the Wizards are doing here.
