“I’ve always felt like my dream would be to be able to walk away from the game on my terms, rather than to say, ‘Oh, my body couldn’t do it anymore and the team cut me because I wasn’t good enough,'” Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins said Sunday. “It’s a dream of mine to be able to leave this game on my terms where I could still do it, but I say, ‘No, I’m good.’”
Whenever and wherever Cousins decides he’s had enough of the NFL life, he should hope for a better fate than that of Giants quarterback Eli Manning, his counterpart in the Redskins’ 20-10 win over New York on Thanksgiving. Giants Coach Ben McAdoo on Tuesday made the surprising announcement that Geno Smith would start in Manning’s place on Sunday at Oakland, ending Manning’s consecutive games started streak at 210 games and perhaps his career as a Giant.
McAdoo also indicated that he would use the final five games of the season to evaluate rookie quarterback Davis Webb, so even if Smith struggles, and no one will be surprised if he does, there’s a good chance that someone other than Manning will be starting at quarterback for the Giants against Washington in the regular season finale at MetLife Stadium for the first time since 2004. That should come as welcome news for the Redskins, who have been tormented by the Manning-led Giants over the last 13 years. Manning’s numbers against Washington in 26 career starts (28 touchdowns, 24 interceptions, 78.9 QB rating) aren’t impressive, but his 17 wins are four more than he has against any other team.
Manning, who threw for 113 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Thursday’s loss to the Redskins, was selected No. 1 overall in the 2004 NFL draft, four spots ahead of the late Sean Taylor. Since the former Ole Miss star replaced Kurt Warner as the Giants’ starting quarterback in Week 11 of his rookie season, every NFL team has started at least three quarterbacks. The Giants’ NFC East foes, including the Redskins, have all started at least 10 quarterbacks, during that span.

Patrick Ramsey: (1-0 against Manning with the Redskins)
Ramsey’s only start against Manning was a 31-7 Redskins win on Dec. 5, 2004, but he also played a key role in Washington’s must-win, late-season game against the Giants the following year. Coming on in relief of the injured Mark Brunell, Ramsey led a pair of second-half scoring drives in Washington’s 35-20 triumph at FedEx Field, the fourth of five consecutive wins to close the regular season that clinched Washington’s first playoff berth since 1999.
Mark Brunell: (1-2)
Todd Collins: (1-0)
Collins’s first start with the Redskins came against Manning, a 22-10 win at Giants Stadium in Week 15 of the 2007 season that kept Washington’s playoff hopes alive.

Jason Campbell: (0-6)
Campbell’s final start against Manning was a 45-12 Giants win on Dec. 21, 2009, which is best remembered for Jim Zorn’s “Swinging Gate.”

Donovan McNabb: (0-1)
Manning posted an ugly 38.9 QB rating in the Giants’ 31-7 win over Washington on Dec. 5, 2010, but that was better than McNabb’s 17.9 rating.
Rex Grossman: (2-1)
Manning threw one touchdown and five interceptions over three starts against Grossman during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Robert Griffin III: (1-3)

Kirk Cousins: (3-4)
Cousins has won three of his last four starts against Manning’s Giants dating back to 2015. The one loss, in the 2016 regular season finale, kept Washington out of the playoffs.
