Chargers vs. Cowboys 2017 live results: Highlights from Los Angele's Thanksgiving Day triumph

Hopefully your Thanksgiving was better than the one the Cowboys had in their 28-6 loss to the Chargers. Whatever slim playoff hopes they were clinging to are gone, swallowed up by the Chargers offensive attack.

As for the Chargers, they’re playoff hopes are very much alive. The win puts them at 5-6 on the season, hovering just outside the AFC wildcard spot.

Fourth quarter

It was an ugly one for the Cowboys. The Chargers finished with 515 yard of total offense. The Dallas defense couldn’t stop anything.

Prescott threw another interception, his second, on the very next drive. It’s over, folks.

Chargers 28, Cowboys 6: Folks, it’s ugly for the Cowboys. Prescott had the Cowboys knocking on the door with a great drive. They were at the Chargers’ 13-yard line when Chargers defensive back Desmond King picked him off and returned it 90 yards for a score.

The extra point failed.

The Cowboys defense is BAD, like putrid. They’ve now given up 472 total yards, with almost 10 minutes to go. Look at all the missed tackles on the Allen touchdown.

Chargers 22, Cowboys 6: LA scored again on another big play, a 42-yard touchdown pass to Keenan Allen. They missed the extra point kick though, the backup, punter Drew Kaser, was on for the attempt.

Chargers 16, Cowboys 6: The Cowboys got a break on the opening drive of the fourth quarter. A Chargers pass interference call put the Cowboys offense on LA’s 30-yard line. Five plays later, Rod Smith ran it in from 2 yards out for a touchdown. The Cowboys failed to make the two-point conversion.

That was Dallas’ first touchdown since the first quarter of their Week 10 game against the Falcons.

Grab some more pie, folks. You’re gonna need it.

Third quarter

Chargers 16, Cowboys 0: All the big plays! The Chargers are racking up yards in chunks. On their second drive of the third quarter, Rivers hit Ty Williams for a 31-yard gain. Three plays later, they connected again for a 27-yard touchdown. They even made the extra point this time!

Denied! It looked like the Cowboys finally had some points. Dak Prescott broke off a 34-yard run to the end zone, but a blatant holding call against Tyron Smith nullified it. Dallas ended up punting.

Cowboys guard Zack Martin has been ruled out with a concussion.

Chargers 9, Cowboys 0: Ekeler caught a deep shot from Rivers on the first possession of the third quarter for a 38-yard gain to get his team to the Dallas 20. This time they finished the drive with a touchdown, a real live bona fide touchdown! Rivers hit tight end Hunter Henry for 3-yard lob over the middle.

They missed the extra point, natch.

With the shot to Ekeler, the Chargers have five plays of 20+ yards.

HALFTIME

The Chargers’ kicking problems may not be over. While you were tuning out the halftime show, they sent their backup kicker out to practice field goals.

Second quarter

Chargers 3, Cowboys 0 at the half.

It wasn’t the most exciting half. The Chargers finished with 228 totals yards and a mere three points to show for it. Dallas ended up a whole 84 yards!

This could be a tough break for the Cowboys. They can’t afford an offensive line injury. Martin’s return is questionable.

Chargers 3, Cowboys 0: Nick Novak came back, and he finally got the Chargers on the board with two minutes left in the half!

Philip Rivers has A LOT of kids.

LA’s kicker issues cost them. Facing a fourth-and-13 from the Dallas 16-yard line, they did not kick the easy field goal, which might not have been so easy for the backup kicker. River hit Austin Ekeler on the play, but it came up a yard short.

First quarter, 0-0

Novak is hurt, so the Chargers kicking game won’t get any better ... or worse. The punter is the emergency backup kicker.

The guy missed the kicking net on a practice kick.

It wouldn’t be a Chargers game if there weren’t a missed field goal! Nick Novak missed a 35-yard shot wide right. L.A. still hasn’t scored a point on an opening drive all season.

Philip Rivers hit Travis Benjamin on the deep post for a 46-yard gain on third-and-10 on the Chargers’ opening drive. That got them to the Cowboys’ 24-yard line. But they couldn’t convert the resulting set of downs.

Annnnd we’re off! Dallas gets the ball to start the game.

The momentum heading into this Week 12 matchup isn’t exactly even, as the Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys get set to meet at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Day at 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS (live stream).

The Chargers are coming off their highest scoring game in almost 10 years, and the Cowboys are looking for answers after quarterback Dak Prescott had the worst outing of his young career. It might only be his second season in the NFL, but expectations for Prescott coming off his rookie year have been sky high. Now that the Cowboys’ offense is forced to move forward without rushing phenom Ezekiel Elliott, it’s so far struggled to make up for his lost production.

Prescott threw three interceptions and had one fumble last weekend against the Eagles, and despite a decent first half, the offensive line struggled to keep the Philadelphia defense at bay through the remainder of the game. This should have been a big point of contention in the days leading up to the Thursday afternoon matchup, with the Chargers’ pass-rushing duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram being a real threat this week.

Bosa, Ingram, and the rest of Los Angeles’ defense claimed five turnovers against the Bills last week en route to their first game with 50-plus points since 2008. The Chargers may have struggled to get their footing in the 2017 season, but at 4-6, they sit at No. 2 in the AFC West. There’s still hope for a postseason run for the Chargers, and beating Dallas on Thanksgiving is just the first step in making that dream a reality.

Pregame reading

It’s looking more and more difficult for Dallas to find its way into the playoff picture at this point — but there’s still a chance.

It may have been the last gasp for the Dallas Cowboys as they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles,37-9. They sit at 5-5 now, and would have to win five of their last six games to have any chance at all at making the playoffs. And even with some players returning from injury, that is not going to be easy in any way, shape, or form.

The Chargers are the only team in the AFC West that currently look like they are improving.
The Chargers do not have a good record. They currently sit at 4-6 and are two games behind the 6-4 Chiefs. However, in an odd off-year for both the AFC and the West, in particular, the Chargers are still alive in both the division and the wild card races.

The Cowboys’ first two possessions offered up some reasons to get excited as Ryan Switzer took the opening kickoff 61 yards down to the Eagles 37-yard line. But the offense would go three and out and have to settle for a field goal.
On their second drive, they had some good plays including a nice 22-yard run, a bootleg to Noah Brown, and a nice designed run for Prescott. But once again, the Cowboys’ offense couldn’t close the deal.
